Role summary

This full-time, on-site bartender position is based in Lilongwe, Central Region, Malawi. The successful candidate will prepare and serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks using company recipes and guest preferences, while keeping the bar clean, orderly, and fully supplied. The role also includes welcoming guests, taking orders, suggesting menu items, handling payments accurately, and supporting a smooth, enjoyable experience for every customer.

Key duties

The bartender will be expected to monitor guest consumption and serve alcohol responsibly in line with applicable guidelines. The role also involves following health, safety, and licensing requirements, opening and closing the bar, managing stock levels, rotating inventory, and working closely with floor and kitchen teams. A positive attitude, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining inclusive service standards are essential.

Qualifications and expectations

Applicants should bring prior experience working as a bartender or in a comparable front-of-house hospitality or food and beverage role. A strong understanding of beverages, including cocktails, spirits, wines, beers, and soft drinks, is important, along with the ability to learn and consistently reproduce standard recipes. Candidates must be confident in customer service, cash handling, and POS operations, and able to work calmly during busy periods.

Work conditions

This position requires full-time on-site work in Lilongwe and may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays. The job also calls for physical stamina, since the bartender will need to stand for long periods, move stock, and maintain a neat and organized bar area. Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism are critical to success in this role.

Additional requirements

Good knowledge of food hygiene, bar cleanliness, and responsible alcohol service is expected; any relevant certification will be considered an advantage. Candidates should also have basic numeracy and record-keeping ability for inventory checks, wastage reporting, and stock control.
