Role overview
This remote contract opportunity is for a geospatial specialist who will contribute domain expertise to the development of AI systems. The position focuses on producing high-quality spatial analysis and practical real-world input that helps improve how models learn and perform. No background in AI is necessary; strong geospatial knowledge is the key requirement.
Core responsibilities
- Build, organize, and upkeep spatial databases while keeping project data accurate and consistent.
- Carry out advanced geoprocessing and spatial modeling in QGIS and turn the findings into useful insights.
- Create, adapt, and support QGIS plugins and extensions based on project needs.
- Use Python and PyQGIS to automate geospatial workflows and make analysis more efficient and repeatable.
- Produce polished maps and visual materials for reports, presentations, and decision-making.
- Work with cross-functional teammates to interpret requirements and convert them into geospatial solutions.
- Explain complex technical ideas clearly in writing and in conversation to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Skills and qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of QGIS, including spatial databases, geoprocessing, and map preparation.
- Hands-on Python experience, especially using PyQGIS to automate tasks inside QGIS.
- Solid understanding of projections, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data conversion.
- Ability to modify QGIS through scripting or plugin development.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to create professional cartographic outputs for different decision-making needs.
- Good organization and sharp attention to detail while handling multiple priorities.
Preferred background
Experience in distributed or remote teams serving external clients is an advantage. Familiarity with other open-source GIS platforms or cloud-based geospatial tools is also helpful. Prior work in spatial analysis for areas such as environmental science, city planning, or natural resource management would be a plus.
