Role overview

This is a permanent Labourer position based in Preston, where you’ll support local housing maintenance and repairs across the community. The role is with one of the UK’s largest housing providers, focused on improving homes, neighbourhoods, and customer outcomes while promoting an inclusive working environment.

What the role involves

• Carrying out a wide mix of general repair work in domestic homes, both inside and outside the property.
• Assisting with several trades, including joinery, tiling, painting, and straightforward plumbing tasks.
• Following job specifications and working in line with health and safety rules.
• Coordinating with supervisors, planners, and other teams to complete work on time.
• Keeping accurate records of work completed and filling in the necessary paperwork.
• Helping maintain high service standards and supporting overall team performance.

Work pattern and environment

Your day will typically be scheduled around repairs and maintenance jobs. You’ll travel between tasks in a company van, work on your own or alongside other tradespeople, and interact directly with customers in their homes. The work needs to be completed efficiently while still meeting quality and compliance standards.

Essential requirements

• An NVQ Level 2 or City and Guilds qualification is required.
• You need prior experience working as a Labourer, ideally in social housing or residential properties.
• A full UK driving licence is mandatory.
• You must be based within the PR postcode area because of the patch covered by the role.

Desirable experience

• Experience across more than one trade, such as joinery, tiling, or plumbing, would be an advantage.
• Any additional trade qualifications would also be beneficial.

Hiring process and checks
