Opportunity Overview
Specsavers Ballina is inviting an ambitious, early-career or newly qualified Optometrist to join a structured development route toward partnership. This role is designed for someone with strong people skills, a willingness to learn, and the drive to help shape the future of a busy community store in Ballina, County Mayo.
You will receive dedicated backing, practical business exposure, and a defined pathway toward becoming an Optometry Partner. The position is suited to an Optometrist who is enthusiastic about patient care, team leadership, and long-term growth rather than someone who already considers themselves an established leader.
Why This Role Stands Out
- A guided progression into partnership through a supported development programme.
- Close collaboration with an experienced Retail Partner who has managed the store since its launch in 2014.
- A competitive salary while progressing toward a 50% ownership stake.
- Opportunity to participate in future profits through dividends and build personal investment over time.
- Leadership development at a pace that suits you, supported by a global and well-known brand.
- Strong access to professional growth and business learning.
- A friendly, community-minded team environment.
About the Store
Specsavers Ballina has been serving the local area since 2014. The store includes two optical test rooms, one dual-use room, and an on-site lab. The team consists of 16 people, including resident optometrists and an experienced lab manager. Audiology services are provided several days each week, and the store completed a full rebrand in November 2024.
The location also features Specsavers Project Boost layout and the latest clinical technology. It is a modern store with strong foundations and significant potential for future development.
What the Role Involves
In this development position, you will build the experience needed to step into partnership responsibilities. The role focuses on leading a clinical team, strengthening customer and community relationships, introducing ideas that support growth, and balancing clinical quality with business performance. You will also receive mentoring as you prepare for full partner responsibilities.
You are not expected to arrive as a complete leader; instead, the emphasis is on ambition, openness to learning, and the energy to grow into the role.
Why Ballina
Ballina is described as a welcoming and lively market town located between Sligo and Castlebar. The area is known for independent shops, cafés and pubs, a growing family community, and attractive surroundings with seasonal tourism. It offers an appealing setting for both career development and lifestyle.
How to Be a Good Fit
The ideal candidate is a CORU-registered Optometrist with a genuine commitment to patient care. You should be ready to develop into a leadership role, stay flexible and motivated, and enjoy working as part of a team that values lasting relationships and community impact.
