As a Software Engineer, you will help shape the club’s internal technology ecosystem, supporting the use of data across the First Team and Academy. Your work will centre on the in-house dashboard application and the cloud systems that power data access, performance, and decision-making.
What You Will Do
- Build and support an internal dashboard used for football analytics.
- Develop both front-end and back-end features.
- Create interfaces that are easy to use and refine them using stakeholder feedback.
- Improve application speed and ensure the system can scale as data volumes grow.
- Set up and maintain data pipelines by combining information from multiple sources with Python and SQL.
- Administer and tune databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Deploy cloud-based solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
- Maintain secure, dependable cloud infrastructure and networking.
- Allocate cloud resources efficiently to balance performance and cost.
- Manage cloud storage systems for fast data retrieval and access.
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes environments.
- Partner with data analysts, video analysts, coaches, and technical staff to deliver practical tools.
- Explain technical ideas and proposed solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
- A master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is also valued.
Skills and Experience
- Strong Python skills, including experience with data visualisation and analysis tools such as pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, Plotly, and Dash.
- Hands-on experience with Django and API development using tools such as Flask or FastAPI.
- Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, networking, and Google Kubernetes Engine.
- Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and mobile or cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter.
- Solid understanding of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience using GitHub for source control and collaboration.
- Good problem-solving ability and the capacity to perform in a fast-moving football environment.
- Confidence in presenting technical concepts to people without a technical background.
- Strong SQL skills, especially with MySQL and PostgreSQL, are an advantage.
