Assistant Coach, Baseball

Role Overview

Austin Peay State University is seeking an Assistant Coach for its baseball program in Clarksville, TN. This full-time, on-site position supports the Head Baseball Coach in training, recruiting, mentoring, and managing student-athletes, while also helping with field upkeep, compliance, and program promotion.

Primary Duties

• Work in close coordination with the Head Baseball Coach to carry out program activities.
• Support the recruitment, coaching, and retention of talented baseball student-athletes.
• Deliver pitching coaching and instruction focused on core techniques, details, and game strategy as directed by the Head Coach.
• Follow the rules and requirements set by the Director of Athletics, the University, ASUN, and the NCAA.
• Help promote and market the baseball program.
• Advise student-athletes on athletics, academic growth, and personal development.
• Partner with the Admissions Office to help enroll student-athletes.
• Assist Admissions with recruiting efforts on a limited basis.
• Track and support student-athlete academic progress.
• Oversee or assist with upkeep of practice and game fields.
• Work with University Advancement and the Athletic Director on fundraising efforts for baseball and broader athletic department initiatives.
• Assist the Head Coach in planning game tactics and strategies.
• Carry out additional job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong ability to teach baseball fundamentals, position-specific details, and strategy during training and practice.
• Capability to inspire athletes and build a winning team environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel for recruiting purposes.
• Capacity to learn and comply with institutional, ASUN, and NCAA policies and regulations.
• Competence with a personal computer and common software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Banner.
• Clear and professional communication skills.
• Ability to protect confidential records and information.
• Comfort working effectively with diverse groups, the university community, and the public.
• Skill in preparing accurate records and reports on time, including budget, eligibility, compliance, and travel documentation.
• Ability to obtain certification to transport student-athletes to athletic events.
• Ability to scout opposing teams.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Applicants should have successful experience as a player and/or coach at the collegiate, university, or professional level.
• A demonstrated history of integrity, strong values, and the ability to develop and motivate student-athletes both academically and athletically is expected.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Additional Information

This position includes responsibilities related to compliance, academic support, travel documentation, recruitment, and fundraising. The role also requires maintaining baseball playing and practice facilities and performing other related duties as assigned.
