IT Technician

Role overview

This position is focused on delivering hands-on technical support for desktop computing environments and related office equipment. The role sits within an administrative setting and supports users by keeping devices, systems, and applications running smoothly and securely.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned activities and service programmes that support end users with desktop technology such as computers, telephones, printers, and scanners, helping them use these tools efficiently.
• Track the execution of operational plans and resolve both everyday and urgent technical incidents affecting desktops, systems, and applications according to business needs.
• Oversee software and system checks, ensure devices and peripherals are functioning properly, and install required software to maintain uninterrupted operations.
• Provide timely assistance to users requesting desktop support, including follow-up through the help desk process to make sure service requests are handled effectively.
• Coordinate preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance for desktop equipment and make sure faulty items are repaired without delay and in line with approved procedures.
• Support emergency recovery plans, including rapid reinstallation of operating systems when needed, while maintaining accurate records of operating systems and updates.
• Help users manage operating systems and provide training that improves their ability to use desktop tools, based on supervisor guidance and operational needs.
• Take part in reviewing and assessing technical submissions from vendors offering desktop hardware, software, and applications, and share recommendations and feedback.
• Monitor the integration of devices and software with information networks, stay current with desktop and IT developments, manage network and email accounts, and suggest improvements for better use across operations.
• Install and support new software applications that match changing work demands and help solve user issues.
• Recommend initiatives to upgrade desktop systems, improve performance and software, and support compliance with ISO 27001 information security standards.
• Assist with creating and sharing cybersecurity awareness notices and guidance on the best use of IT services, devices, and software for employees.
• Attend meetings, seminars, committees, working groups, forums, and conferences connected to IT services, and follow through on decisions and recommendations that come out of them.
• Prepare and submit periodic and annual reports for the Head of Section covering achievements, KPIs, budget use, challenges, feedback, and suggestions for improving the work.
• Handle other work-related duties assigned in line with the role, committee direction, and organisational strategy.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a similar discipline is required. Candidates should also have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
