Core Responsibilities
- Examine patient records and assign the appropriate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and modifier codes.
- Confirm that the charting supports the codes selected, and raise any documentation gaps or inconsistencies when needed.
- Follow CMS guidance, payer-specific requirements, official coding standards, and NCCI edit rules.
- Deliver consistent quality results, including maintaining coding accuracy at or above 95%, while meeting productivity expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
- An active CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT credential is required.
- At least 3 years of experience coding outpatient services across multiple outpatient settings.
- Strong working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, NCCI edits, CMS rules, and outpatient workflows.
Client and Specialty Fit
- Experience should cover observation, same-day surgery, ambulatory surgery center (ASC), emergency department, ancillary services such as radiology, lab, and diagnostic testing, as well as recurring outpatient clinic work.
- The role requires the ability to code both surgical and diagnostic services and apply payer-specific rules across mixed outpatient encounter types.
Work Model and Employment Options
- This is a fully remote role in an independent, production-driven setting with coordination across coding, audit, and client teams.
- Full-time assignments are structured around standard production expectations based on client or project needs.
- Part-time, PRN, and project-based support may be used for backlog work, specialty coverage, or focused initiatives.
- Depending on the assignment, evening or weekend coverage may be needed to meet client or project requirements.
Why This Role
- Work with a wide range of high-acuity health systems and specialties across the country.
- Join a quality-focused team with balanced expectations rather than a volume-only approach.
- Flexible engagement options are available, including full-time, part-time, and PRN work.
- There may be opportunities to grow into audit, education, and advisory work.
