The role focuses on maintaining stable gas network performance, supporting operational decision-making, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure the network is run in line with regulatory, safety, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Track operating readings, records, and trends to spot abnormalities or emerging issues, then take timely corrective action.
• Analyze recurring operational issues and work with operations and maintenance teams to develop long-term solutions.
• Examine gas billing reports to confirm delivered gas volumes are properly accounted for and billed accurately.
• Evaluate expansion plans, connection points, and execution methods to ensure future works do not compromise safe gas network operation.
• Review gas connection design submissions from an operations standpoint to verify existing system conditions remain unaffected.
• Assess and approve installation plans for other utilities that cross or run parallel to gas pipelines to maintain network safety.
• Make sure routine tests are performed on schedule and in line with approved standards.
• Stay current with modern gas distribution technologies and practices to support the long-term sustainability of the network.
• Recommend process improvements and implement controls that help meet procedural, legal, and service-quality requirements.
• Oversee post-shutdown testing and commissioning to confirm maintenance work has been completed effectively.
• Monitor day-to-day operational work to ensure activities are completed efficiently and according to policy and procedures.
• Develop practical solutions for complex technical and logistical issues affecting gas network performance.
• Set, monitor, and report KPIs for operations, maintenance, reliability, planning, scheduling, and audit activities.
• Assess new technologies and distribution methods and recommend improvements that strengthen efficiency and sustainability.
• Prepare, review, and monitor the department’s annual budget to make sure operational needs are funded appropriately.
• Work with other Marafiq stakeholders to carry out strategic plans and required gas network initiatives.
• Consult with Engineering/TSD teams to obtain recommendations and solutions that improve network performance and efficiency.
• Ensure full compliance with safety, quality, and environmental management systems, policies, and controls.
• Act promptly as a Technical Committee member during emergencies, including fires, to help protect people, plant, and equipment.
• Review and monitor the Work Permit System in the role of Authorized Permit Controller so non-operational work is carried out safely.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by management.

Education & Experience

A university degree in an engineering discipline is required, with preference for Mechanical, Chemical, or Instrument Engineering.

The role calls for 8 to 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance or process engineering within gas transmission or gas distribution facilities.

Additional experience and knowledge should include gas measurement technologies and processes, project management and design review for gas pipelines and metering skids, SAP system usage, hydraulic calculation interpretation, and application of gas standards.
