Role overview
Pet Valu is part of a large North American retail family serving pet owners with food and supplies for dogs, cats, companion birds, wild birds, fish, reptiles, and small animals. The brand also supports local pets through partnerships with shelters, rescues, charities, adoption events, select in-store adoption programs, pet food bank initiatives, and national donation and fundraising drives.
As a Store Manager in Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador, you will lead and develop the store team to deliver exceptional customer service and help pet parents choose the right nutrition and other products for their pets. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys learning, growing, and building a career in the pet retail industry.
What you will do
- Make sure the team consistently meets customer service standards and maintains respectful relationships in the community, including with groups such as the Humane Society.
- Lead employees through hiring support, scheduling, training, daily task assignment, supervision, and ongoing coaching.
- Ensure store operations follow company-wide standards and procedures.
- Handle administrative work such as ordering stock, keeping inventory levels appropriate, completing store and safety audits, arranging minor repairs, and finishing required corporate paperwork.
- Guide store efforts toward achieving business targets and performance goals.
- Take on any additional duties as needed.
What you bring
- At least 2 years of experience in customer service and retail store management.
- Interest in learning and advancing within the pet care sector.
- A friendly, outgoing approach with strong customer service ability.
- Availability to work the scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Reliable transportation to and from the store.
- Ability to observe staff, give constructive feedback on sales methods, and support excellent customer service.
- Comfort handling team conflicts and escalating issues when required.
- Working knowledge of point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs.
- Prior industry experience is considered an advantage.
