Role overview
Young Engineers Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is hiring part-time instructors to support STEM and engineering workshops for children. This opportunity is part of the team launching the programme locally and helping bring hands-on learning experiences to the community.
Young Engineers is an international learning organisation active in more than 100 countries, with programmes already established across Dublin and Ireland. Its activities use building projects and engineering-based challenges to help children build creativity, problem-solving ability, teamwork, and confidence in an enjoyable setting.
What the role involves
You will lead children aged 6 to 12 through structured building sessions and engaging engineering activities that make learning practical, memorable, and fun. Sessions may take place in schools, after-school clubs, libraries, community centres, workshops, and holiday camps across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
No engineering qualification is needed for this position. The organisation will provide complete training, curriculum support, and materials.
Impact of the role
The role is focused on creating meaningful STEM experiences, helping children grow in confidence, encouraging creativity and problem-solving, supporting positive learning spaces, building relationships with schools and community partners, and promoting curiosity and innovation among young learners.
Who the role suits
The team is open to people with an interest in STEM, science, engineering, technology, or scientific thinking. The employer is especially interested in hearing from teachers and trainee teachers, engineering/science/technology students, youth leaders, camp facilitators, childcare professionals, and others with experience working with children.
Requirements and preferences
Applicants should be dependable, professional, energetic, enthusiastic, well organised, punctual, comfortable working with children, confident communicators, curious, and eager to learn.
It is important to be eligible to work in Ireland, be available during after-school hours and school holidays, and be willing to complete Garda Vetting. Garda Vetting is required because the programmes are delivered in schools and educational settings.
Experience in teaching, tutoring, coaching, childcare, camps, or youth activities is an advantage. Having access to transport is also beneficial, since the work takes place across multiple locations in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
What you can expect
The position offers flexible part-time hours, hourly pay at a competitive rate, full training and ongoing support, and the chance to grow with a programme that is still expanding. It also offers the opportunity to do meaningful work by inspiring children through STEM and engineering, while helping shape the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown programme from its early stages.
How to express interest
Interested candidates are invited to submit an application with a CV and a short introduction by email.
