Role overview
PMs for Hire is seeking an Athlete Protection Program Coordinator for a 12-month contract with a well-known retail brand in Beaverton, Oregon. The position is 40 hours per week and follows a hybrid setup, with remote work on Fridays. The coordinator will report to the Director of the Athlete Protection Program within the Research Operations team and collaborate with scientific teams across the organization.
Compensation and schedule
Pay is $54 to $59.86 per hour, depending on experience. The assignment runs for 12 months and is based in Beaverton, OR with a hybrid work arrangement.
What you'll do
- Support administrative operations for the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Conduct pre-review checks of research submissions to verify ethical and regulatory alignment.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for investigator questions and concerns.
- Advise and educate researchers on human-subjects compliance and take part in outreach or other Athlete Protection Program activities when needed.
- Help sustain an effective ethical innovation and research program within Innovation.
- Work with multiple functions to understand team-specific work and the safeguards needed for athletes.
- Recommend improvements to existing programs that better protect athletes while supporting fast-paced innovation and discovery.
- Navigate complex ethics and innovation issues to identify practical solutions.
- Build trust-based working relationships across teams and departments.
- Occasionally lead targeted fact-finding efforts and turn findings into actionable recommendations.
- Operate effectively both independently and in collaborative settings.
- Apply prior experience to bring new perspectives and identify more than one path to success.
- Assess situations through the lens of athlete and client risk.
- Influence stakeholders using well-supported reasoning and policy-based judgment in non-routine scenarios.
- Lead trainings twice each year and manage related records.
What we're looking for
- A bachelor's degree in a scientific, biomedical, health, or regulatory discipline with 6 years of direct experience, or a master's degree with 4 years of direct experience.
- Background working with IRBs or human research protection programs.
- Strong organization and coordination skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations.
- Comfort speaking with a broad range of technical specialists.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a proactive approach to clarifying expectations.
- Solid expertise in research ethics and familiarity with federal rules for human-subjects research, including HHS and FDA requirements.
- Certified IRB Professional credential preferred.
- Prior exposure to sport science research such as biomechanics, perception, physiology, or behavior is preferred.
- Database management experience, especially with tools like Airtable or Excel, is a major advantage.
