Despatch Operative

Role overview

Dawn Meats is seeking a seasoned Despatch Operative to strengthen its busy production team in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo. This is a permanent, full-time position based on site.

The company is a major meat processor and supplier serving leading supermarket, foodservice and restaurant brands. Founded in 1980, it operates across 13 countries, employs more than 12,000 people, and exports to over 70 countries.

In this role, you will help ensure customer orders are handled correctly from despatch through to loading and unloading, while using forklift and scanning equipment to support accurate picking, packing, audit trails and traceability.

Key duties

• Support the day-to-day production and dispatch flow for customer orders.
• Operate forklift equipment to pick, move and pack goods and orders.
• Work across both chilled and ambient areas as required.
• Contribute as an effective member of the team to keep work moving smoothly.
• Maintain a clean, organised and tidy workspace.
• Follow health and safety requirements consistently.
• Work toward the targets and standards set by the Shift Manager.
• Stay flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs.
• Carry out reasonable tasks requested by the Shift Manager.
• Handle repeated light, medium and heavy lifting as part of the job.

Skills and experience

• Forklift experience would be beneficial, though full training will be provided.
• Previous warehouse or despatch experience is helpful but not required.
• Strong communication skills.
• Good spoken English, numeracy and literacy.
• Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Physical capability to carry out lifting duties.
• Teamworking ability.
• Strong attention to detail.

Working pattern

Availability is required from Monday to Friday, with one Saturday shift each month.

This role is for a permanent appointment. The workplace is a chilled and ambient production environment, and the position may involve regular repetitive lifting.
