Role overview
Frederic Schad is looking for an experienced Documentation Clerk to support customs documentation, shipment clearance, and related operational coordination in Kingston, Jamaica. Candidates must have prior experience, as only experienced applicants will be considered.
Core functions
- Check tariff classifications across customs records and confirm they are correct.
- Keep the internal clearance register current at all times.
- Ensure customs and local regulations are followed before, during, and after the clearance process.
- Work with airline, shipping line, supplier, and contractor contacts to support efficient shipment handling in line with operating procedures and customer expectations.
- Prepare customs documentation and upload it to the web server.
- Raise requests to finance for duties and any other applicable taxes.
- Prepare and file all shipment manifests.
- Track shipment progress and enter updates into company systems such as the Ops log and CargoWise, following business rules.
- Follow up with shipping lines for arrival notices.
- Handle export document submissions.
- Coordinate with customs brokers to obtain the latest shipment clearance updates.
- Support physical shipment dispatch when required.
- Arrange shipment delivery to customers according to standard operating procedures and customer requirements.
- Apply for customs permits as needed.
- Review invoices submitted by customers for accuracy.
- Assist with delivery orders in the Port Community System (PCS).
- Identify non-conformities and report them as opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare customs declarations for both imports and exports.
- Confirm tariff classifications with Jamaica Customs where required.
- Apply strong knowledge of customs laws, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Carry out other operational duties relevant to the role.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role is needed.
- Proficiency with MS Office is expected.
- Basic familiarity with AFR and OFR operations, including handling, documentation, and customs clearance, is required.
