Geospatial Data Specialist

Position Overview

This is a contract-based remote role for a Geospatial Data Specialist. The work focuses on managing spatial data projects from start to finish in QGIS, with a weekly commitment of 10 to 40 hours. Compensation is set at $20 to $70 per hour.

Core Responsibilities

• Handle complete GIS assignments independently in QGIS, including sourcing raw spatial data, preparing it for use, and delivering polished map outputs.
• Keep clear, real-time notes on methods, logic, and decisions while carrying out data management, spatial analysis, and map production tasks.
• Arrange, refine, and verify spatial datasets to maintain high levels of accuracy and consistency.
• Work with projections, coordinate systems, and spatial references to improve data compatibility and final output quality.
• Apply styling and symbology to map layers so the finished maps are clear and professionally presented.
• Investigate and resolve workflow issues in QGIS, and communicate the approach used to solve them.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience using QGIS and the ability to manage full GIS projects without supervision.
• A demonstrated history of producing reliable spatial analyses, maps, and other geospatial deliverables in QGIS.
• Solid understanding of spatial file types, coordinate systems, projections, and key GIS concepts.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills for explaining technical choices and workflow reasoning.
• Strong capabilities in organizing, cleaning, and transforming data within QGIS.
