About the company
Bending Spoons aims to become an exceptional long-term business by acquiring and improving digital products it owns and operates. The company focuses on meaningful transformations that accelerate innovation, improve customer value, and strengthen performance, while maintaining strong ethical standards. Teams are intentionally small, highly capable, and operate with startup-like urgency. AI is woven into the way work is done so that human judgment and machine intelligence complement each other.
Role overview
This role is suited to a talented, motivated, and collaborative software engineer who wants to learn quickly, contribute meaningfully, and grow fast in a demanding but highly rewarding environment. The position emphasizes real ownership, broad technical exposure, and strong personal development.
Key responsibilities
- Develop production software with direct ownership from idea through launch, building systems that serve millions of users and continue to scale.
- Use AI tools throughout the development cycle, including design, implementation, testing, and documentation, to improve speed without compromising correctness, stability, or maintainability.
- Work across varied technologies and architectures, selecting the right approach for each problem, including monoliths, microservices, gRPC, REST, Kubernetes, Docker, Python, and Rust.
- Continuously reduce unnecessary complexity by improving architecture, delivery pipelines, and code quality so systems become simpler and easier to support.
What the company looks for
- Strong analytical and reasoning ability, with the capacity to solve difficult problems from first principles and focus on the details that truly matter.
- High ambition, initiative, persistence, and a strong sense of accountability for your work.
- A collaborative mindset that values the best idea, supports teammates actively, and stays transparent, honest, and dependable.
- Professional fluency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
Benefits and compensation
- Work in small, autonomous, high-performing teams with very strong peers.
- Strong growth opportunities, with increasing responsibility and the chance to contribute to major projects early in your career.
- Competitive compensation with access to company equity for permanent contracts.
- Flexible working hours, remote work, unlimited support for learning and training, premium health insurance, relocation support, parental support, and an annual retreat in a beautiful destination.
- Flexible joining date and the option to start part-time, then move to full-time while finishing your degree.
Contract and working arrangement
The role can be permanent or fixed-term and is full-time. Part-time begins are possible initially, with a transition to full-time later. The company also mentions that if you are relocating to Italy, you may be eligible for a 50% tax reduction.
Location and remote policy
The role is available in Milan, London, Madrid, Warsaw, or remotely in selected approved countries. New joiners are encouraged to spend their first few months working from the Milan office to build context and relationships quickly, after which remote work or office-based work may be arranged depending on the offer agreement.
Selection process
The hiring process focuses on evidence of excellence rather than seniority. Candidates may be asked to complete one or more challenging tests that can take several hours. All applications are reviewed through the company’s careers process, and every applicant is considered through the same evaluation path.
Additional notes
Applicants are encouraged not to self-reject if they feel short on experience or have an imperfect CV. If you have applied before and were not offered the role, the recommendation is to wait at least one year before applying again. The company also notes that it may keep roles open for months or repost them while searching for the right person. Reasonable accommodations are available for people with disabilities.
Commitment required
This is a demanding environment that expects exceptional commitment, but it also offers strong learning, achievement, and career growth in return.
