Instrumentation Designer

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Instrumentation & Control Designer to join a multidisciplinary team. The role calls for someone with hands-on experience delivering high-quality, cost-conscious work with a strong safety mindset across Oil & Gas, FMCG, and Advanced Technology projects. You will collaborate with licensed engineers and fellow designers to produce instrument and control drawings and other project deliverables, while working closely with different engineering disciplines and, at times, coordinating across multiple offices.

Responsibilities

• Create instrumentation and control design deliverables for industrial, manufacturing, and utility-focused projects.
• Develop hook-up and installation drawings.
• Prepare wiring drawings, loop sheets, instrument registers, I/O lists, and junction box/panel location layouts.
• Produce cable schedules along with cable tray sizing and load calculations.
• Design cable routing, cable tray and conduit layouts, grounding layouts, and support details.
• Prepare bills of material and bulk material take-offs.
• Own instrumentation design tasks for multidisciplinary engineering assignments.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in instrumentation and control or electrical design work.
• Strong working knowledge of 3D modelling platforms such as SP3D, E3D, SmartPlant, or similar tools.
• Solid AutoCAD skills, including a clear understanding of drafting and design standards.
• Good foundational knowledge of instrumentation design principles and project deliverables.
• Prior exposure to SPI or InTools is preferred.
• Familiarity with international codes and standards.
• Ability to consistently meet client deadlines.

This role is based in Chennai, India. Experience in projects for Oil & Gas, FMCG, and Advanced Technology environments is especially relevant. The position emphasizes quality, cost effectiveness, safety, and strong communication across disciplines.
