Role Summary

HATCH for Hunger is a nonprofit working to narrow the protein gap in the charitable food system across the United States. The organization collaborates with producers, processors, and food banks to move high-quality protein efficiently and at scale, with the goal of making a tangible difference in food insecurity. The team is described as fast-moving and mission-led, focused on building partnerships and operational systems that deliver impact.

The Logistics & Operations Coordinator will act as a central link in HATCH’s supply chain. This role is the main daily contact for food bank customers and is responsible for keeping communication, logistics, and documentation aligned between producers, freight partners, and customers. Core ownership includes freight coordination, order processing, customer support, and invoice and bill tracking.

Work Location and Reporting

This position is based in Carmel, Indiana, and operates in a hybrid setup with onsite presence expected 3–4 days each week. The role reports to the VP of Operations.

Compensation

The base salary is $50,000 to $60,000, along with benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee transportation coordination by monitoring delivery performance, handling proof-of-delivery and bill-of-lading documents, obtaining and following up on freight pricing, and issuing tenders.
  • Review carrier performance, including punctuality, delivery timing, and reliability.
  • Receive and process orders from food bank partners, then route them to farm producers and protein partners while ensuring accurate entry and timely follow-up.
  • Act as the primary contact for customer questions related to operations and deliveries.
  • Keep invoice records and order confirmations organized and current.
  • Record and monitor bills from protein partners while checking for accuracy.
  • Assist the COO and VP of Operations with weekly planning for supply and demand, execution tracking, and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or a closely related area, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in logistics, freight coordination, operations, or customer service, preferably in food, agriculture, or manufacturing.
  • Practical knowledge of freight paperwork and processes, including BOLs, PODs, rate requests, and tendering.
  • Exposure to ERP and/or TMS platforms such as Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP, or similar systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Comfort using Excel; Power BI experience is preferred.
  • Interest in mission-driven work and improving access to food in communities.
  • Nonprofit or food bank experience is an added advantage, though not mandatory.
  • Ability to stay composed, organized, and solution-oriented while handling delivery issues or possible freight claims.
  • Basic understanding of accounts payable and accounting concepts is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in an environment that is still evolving and scaling.

Scorecard Expectations

  • Quickly understands HATCH’s order and freight process and handles deliveries, PODs, BOLs, rates, and tenders with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Communicates proactively with food banks and suppliers and resolves issues promptly.
  • Looks for ways to improve workflows, streamline reporting, and strengthen standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborates effectively with finance, procurement, and logistics functions.
  • Demonstrates HATCH values through teamwork, initiative, accountability, and compassion.
