About the Opportunity
EY is hiring a Manager for its Climate Change and Sustainability Services practice. This team is the largest sustainability consulting group in Oceania and supports leading organisations in New Zealand and Australia as they respond to climate change and sustainability challenges. The work spans ESG strategy, outcomes measurement, climate risk, decarbonisation, human rights, modern slavery, advisory, and assurance engagements. The current focus is on reporting and assurance work.
This role is available as a hybrid position and is based in Auckland or Wellington. EY has noted that the role may be adapted for flexible working, including reduced hours, and encourages candidates to discuss possible arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across several industries to help organisations manage and report on sustainability- and climate-related risks and impacts.
- Lead engagement teams and support the growth of team members through coaching and development guidance.
- Oversee project coordination, maintain clear communication with clients, engagement teams, and senior leaders, and ensure work is completed on time and to a high standard.
- Deliver assurance work for non-financial reporting, including sustainability metrics and emissions and energy reporting across multiple sectors.
- Advise clients on strategy development and on preparing non-financial reports covering sustainability metrics, emissions, and energy.
- Help shape strategies, methodologies, analytical tools, and practical solutions that enable clients to navigate regulation and stakeholder expectations.
- Support clients in creating and executing sustainability strategies, setting targets, and implementing plans across areas such as diversity, waste, modern slavery, and environmental impact.
- Assist with climate scenario analysis to evaluate climate risks and opportunities and to define short- and long-term management goals.
Candidate Profile
EY is looking for someone with a strong professional interest in climate and sustainability, along with a genuine desire to keep learning. The ideal candidate will bring consulting or professional services experience, a quantitative tertiary qualification, and hands-on exposure to climate change services, greenhouse gas accounting, and reporting or assurance of emissions data. Familiarity with New Zealand climate reporting requirements and awareness of the Australian Accounting Standards Board S2 standard are important, as is experience leading teams and developing others. Knowledge of climate and nature disclosure frameworks such as TCFD and TNFD, plus experience with decarbonisation, climate risk, and climate strategy, will be valuable. The role also requires adaptability, curiosity, and strong problem-solving instincts.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, science, commerce, accounting, business, or physics.
- Experience in climate change services gained in professional services, industry, or government.
- Practical knowledge of GHG accounting.
- Experience with reporting and/or assurance of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Understanding of the climate reporting regime in New Zealand.
- Awareness of the Australian Accounting Standard Board S2 requirements.
- Experience leading teams and coaching or developing team members.
- Exposure to climate and nature disclosure, including TCFD and TNFD frameworks.
- Working knowledge of decarbonisation approaches, climate risk, and climate strategy.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt on the move, ask strong questions, and pursue effective client solutions.
