Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Role overview

This position sits within Apple’s Manufacturing Design organization and focuses on shaping quality systems for new parts and next-generation products. Key responsibilities

• Work as part of the quality engineering function to support the large-scale creation of highly sophisticated products.
• Collaborate with tooling and functional teams during the concept stage to review designs and manufacturing processes.
• Build measurement systems, control approaches, information systems, and manufacturing methods capable of meeting demanding specifications at scale.
• Create and roll out advanced inspection methods for cosmetic and dimensional part checks.
• Analyze data to establish suitable limits, variables, and specifications for parts and processes while maintaining strong yield performance.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define quality expectations and apply the right assurance methods.
• Organize and prioritize quality engineering work across multiple programs and team members.
• Help expand team capability and support hiring of additional engineers.
• Set up audit processes suited to the program and supplier to keep work aligned with Apple quality standards.
• Review and share yield performance for both new and established processes.
• Lead corrective actions with internal and external collaborators.

Requirements

• Background in manufacturing and quality control.
• 6 to 10 years of experience building process quality plans, conducting supplier quality audits, and driving corrective actions and failure analysis.
• Practical understanding of mechanical quality, reliability concepts, supplier management, and manufacturing operations.
• Experience developing and assessing measurement systems.
• Knowledge of OMM, CMM, contour machines, interferometers, 3D scanning, and similar high-precision equipment is an advantage.
• Strong discipline in GD&T, including datum setup and tolerance analysis.
• Project management experience along with a solid grasp of problem-solving tools such as design of experiments, root cause analysis, and statistical analysis tools like JMP or Minitab.
• Exposure to glass manufacturing and coatings is an added advantage.
• Education in BE/BTech in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, or a similar field; ME/MS is preferred.
• Strong project coordination and organizational ability.
• Excellent communication skills, technical understanding, teamwork, and a results-oriented mindset.
