Role overview
As an RAF Firefighter, you’ll help deliver round-the-clock fire cover and crash rescue support. The role calls for strong organisation, readiness, and the ability to react quickly to emergencies using specialist tools, including heavy-duty cutting equipment.
What the job involves
RAF Firefighters form part of a deployable aerodrome and rescue firefighting capability that supports Defence operations in the UK and abroad.
Key activities
- Contribute to air operations when deployed within the UK or overseas.
- Operate as part of a tightly coordinated team that may be required to deploy at short notice to locations anywhere in the world.
- Deal with incidents involving aircraft, buildings, hazardous materials, and events linked to hostile activity.
Entry requirements
- You must be aged between 17 and 47, and you need to attestation before your 48th birthday.
- GCSEs at grade C/4, or Scottish National 5 at grade C, in English Language and Mathematics/Application of Mathematics are required, or an equivalent qualification such as Functional Skills.
- Nationality and residency conditions apply; the full criteria are set out in the Entry Requirements on the employer’s website.
- You must agree to a minimum service commitment of 3 years after Phase Two Training.
- You need to satisfy the required health and fitness standards.
- You must pass the Defence Aptitude Assessment.
- A fitness test is part of the selection process.
