About the company

OptiTrack is an international provider of advanced 3D motion tracking technology, known for high-performance motion capture systems used across virtual production, biomechanics, robotics, and game development. Its solutions support innovation at leading research institutions, studios, and organizations worldwide.

This opening is for a Technical Writer to join the Engineering team in Corvallis, Oregon. The role sits at the intersection of engineering and end users, turning sophisticated motion-tracking workflows into clear, practical, and professional documentation that helps people use the products with confidence.

Role overview

The Technical Writer will own and improve documentation for OptiTrack products and internal processes. In close partnership with engineering, support, QA, product management, and marketing, the role focuses on producing accurate, easy-to-follow materials that support customers, strengthen internal knowledge sharing, and improve workflows.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the main documentation owner for OptiTrack products.
  • Develop and update customer documentation such as user manuals, knowledge base content, release notes, installation instructions, troubleshooting guides, SDK/API references, and developer-facing materials.
  • Build and maintain internal documentation covering support procedures, engineering workflows, training resources, and organizational knowledge.
  • Work with engineering and support teams to document new products, features, operating workflows, and best practices.
  • Collect information from subject matter experts and turn complex technical ideas into clear, concise writing.
  • Manage documentation libraries and workflows using tools such as GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Review existing documentation for correctness, consistency, and alignment with product updates.
  • Ensure documentation follows internal security and data privacy standards.
  • Help define and improve documentation standards, style guidance, and knowledge management practices.
  • Create supporting media such as screenshots, diagrams, tutorials, and instructional videos when needed.
  • Be prepared for occasional travel as required by the role.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in technical writing or a closely related field.
  • Excellent written communication skills and a very high level of attention to detail.
  • Background in documenting software, hardware, or similarly complex technical products.
  • Comfort working with engineers and other technical experts.
  • Hands-on experience with documentation and collaboration tools such as GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Working knowledge of Git and other version control-based collaboration workflows.
  • Ability to juggle several priorities and projects in a fast-moving environment.
  • Preferred exposure to OptiTrack products and motion capture workflows.
  • Useful industry experience in motion capture, animation, virtual production, robotics, biomechanics, or related fields.
  • Experience with 3D tools such as Maya, MotionBuilder, Blender, Unreal Engine, or Unity is a plus.
  • Experience creating video tutorials, training materials, or other multimedia documentation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with video editing or content creation tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, or After Effects is a plus.

Work environment and physical requirements

This is a professional office-based position that requires remaining seated for long periods while using standard office equipment. The job also involves repeated use of the wrists, hands, and fingers for keyboard work, along with the visual focus needed to review detailed technical diagrams and software code.
