Role Overview
As a Yard Person, you will help keep day-to-day yard operations organized and efficient. This hands-on role involves arranging equipment, tracking inventory, supporting loading and unloading, and helping maintain a clean and safe work environment. It is well suited to someone who enjoys practical work, machinery, and a busy team setting.
Key Duties
- Keep equipment locations updated accurately in the system.
- Document all yard activity and transactions.
- Wash and tidy equipment when required.
- Check equipment when it arrives and before it leaves the yard, including confirming 360 inspections, fuel levels, cleanliness, and any damage for billing follow-up.
- Stage and organize equipment within the yard.
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment from trailers.
- Support heavy machinery operators by spotting as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and tools.
- Deliver helpful and professional customer service.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
- Take on additional related tasks as assigned.
Skills and Capabilities
The role calls for hands-on equipment handling, good computer use, strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage several tasks in a fast-moving environment. Clear verbal and written communication, a positive approach, and comfort working outdoors in varying conditions are also important. Training will be provided for operating forklifts, Bobcats, pallet jacks, and similar equipment.
Working Conditions
This position is based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and follows a Monday to Friday schedule averaging 40 hours per week. The job involves frequent outdoor exposure, covering about 80% of the time.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation package includes hourly pay between $23.42 and $29.04, plus a pension plan, medical and dental coverage, and vacation benefits according to the Collective Agreement.
