Role overview

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust delivers adult mental health care with a strong focus on the overall needs of service users, patients, and carers, while also supporting staff development and wellbeing. This position is based on Moorgate Ward, an 8-bed male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Harbour in Blackpool, England.

The successful candidate will join the ward team on a 3-month secondment and provide clinical leadership in day-to-day practice. The role involves working closely with the ward manager and the wider multidisciplinary team, while maintaining a flexible rota that includes weekends.

This opportunity is suited to an experienced and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse who is ready to progress into a leadership-focused clinical role. The post requires sound judgement, confidence in managing risk, and a commitment to safe, therapeutic, person-centred care for people experiencing acute mental health needs.

Key aspects of the role

You will help guide the direct care team, contribute to service improvement, and support care that is least restrictive and rooted in kindness, resilience, and clinical credibility. The role also calls for effective collaboration across professional boundaries and a strong interest in improving outcomes for patients and carers.

Additional information

The trust promotes diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, including those from under-represented groups. Applications are encouraged from candidates with lived experience relevant to the service area, as this is valued as an important source of insight and authenticity.

Flexible working options are supported, including term-time working, part-time arrangements, compressed hours, and flexi-time, where suitable. Staff wellbeing is a priority, and a range of resources and support are available to help employees maintain a healthy work-life balance.
