Role overview
A fast-expanding and well-respected financial services business is looking for a Data & BI Engineer to join its technology function in Dublin. The role focuses on building dependable data solutions that improve reporting, analytics, and decision-making across the organisation.
What you will do
- Develop, refine, and maintain data pipelines and data models that can support reporting and analytical use cases at scale.
- Investigate logs and data sets to identify problems and fix issues across different systems and platforms.
- Enhance business intelligence outputs so that dashboards, reports, and visualisations remain accurate and useful.
- Work closely with teams such as Product, QA, and DevOps to deliver data solutions that are stable and fit for purpose.
- Take part in ongoing improvements to development, deployment, and data handling practices.
- Contribute to technical and architectural conversations by sharing input on system and data design choices.
- Create clear documentation for solutions, workflows, and operational processes to help with knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability.
- Assist with internal tooling and automation initiatives that reduce repetitive work and improve efficiency.
Experience and technical background
- 4 to 6 years of experience in data engineering, BI engineering, or a closely related position.
- Strong SQL capability, including advanced query writing and query performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with data warehousing, data modelling, and ETL/ELT workflows.
- Comfortable working with large data volumes and delivering practical data-led solutions.
- Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
- Experience with testing approaches covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Good understanding of software development practices such as code review and documentation standards.
- Able to diagnose and resolve moderately complex technical issues.
Preferred exposure
- Experience using Power BI, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server would be beneficial.
- Awareness of modern data architecture ideas such as data mesh or data products is an advantage.
- Familiarity with AWS services including Glue, S3, Spark, and EventBridge is useful.
- Programming experience in Python or C# is desirable.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices would be a plus.
- Previous exposure to financial services is considered helpful.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or another related field is required.
