Drafting Checker

Overview

Lanmark is hiring a Drafting Checker for its Calgary, Alberta, Canada location. This is a full-time, on-site position focused on reviewing technical, fabrication, and construction drawing packages to make sure they are accurate, well-coordinated, and aligned with internal standards, client expectations, and relevant codes.

The role suits someone with substantial drafting experience, a sharp eye for detail, and the judgement to catch issues before documents are released for fabrication, construction, or client review.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine drawings for correctness, completeness, readability, and alignment with project requirements.
• Validate dimensions, notes, annotations, scales, layouts, section/detail callouts, material lists, and drawing comments.
• Cross-check drawings with design inputs, client standards, engineering markups, specifications, and internal drafting rules.
• Spot drafting mistakes, missing information, inconsistencies, and constructability risks.
• Return marked-up feedback and clear redlines to drafters and designers.
• Confirm that drawing sets are coordinated properly across disciplines when required.
• Verify that revisions, title blocks, drawing numbers, references, and issue statuses are accurate.
• Help maintain drafting standards, procedures, templates, and quality-control checklists.
• Collaborate with drafters, designers, project managers, engineers, and fabrication/construction teams.
• Contribute to ongoing improvements in drafting quality and checking workflows.
• Review drawings before internal review, client delivery, fabrication release, or construction issue.

Qualifications

• A post-secondary diploma or certificate in drafting, engineering design technology, CAD technology, or a similar discipline is required.
• At least 5 years of drafting experience is expected, with prior checking or senior drafting background preferred.
• Strong knowledge of technical drawing standards and drafting best practices is necessary.
• Hands-on experience with AutoCAD is required.
• Experience with additional drafting or design software is considered an advantage.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, layouts, and fabrication details is important.
• A solid grasp of coordination, dimensioning, tolerances, and drawing presentation is needed.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational ability are essential.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to give constructive feedback are required.
• Comfort managing multiple drawing packages while meeting deadlines is necessary.
• Experience with structural, civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, fabrication, or construction drawings would be beneficial.
