About the company

A major organisation with operations across Australia’s east coast is expanding and improving its payroll function. It is now looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join a sizeable payroll team in Brisbane. This is a permanent full-time opportunity that will be central to the success of a department currently going through a period of transformation. The role is based in inner Brisbane, close to public transport, and includes access to on-site parking.

Role overview

Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you will take ownership of team leadership, payroll accuracy, compliance, and ongoing process improvement. You will also help guide system changes and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure payroll operations run smoothly.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and coach the payroll team so payroll runs are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Manage payroll updates such as new employee onboarding and employee exits.
  • Own payroll reporting and reconciliation activities.
  • Ensure payroll practices align with relevant tax, legal, and compliance obligations.
  • Assist with hiring and development of payroll team members.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to best-practice payroll processes.
  • Support payroll-related system changes and upgrades across the team.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on payroll matters, queries, and process guidance.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Proven experience managing a payroll team in a medium to large payroll environment.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation.
  • Strong understanding of multi-location payroll processing and associated tax requirements.
  • Comfort operating in a busy environment with frequent change.
  • A genuine focus on staff engagement and development.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for working with senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational ability and close attention to detail.

What’s on offer

  • The chance to lead a large payroll team during an important transformation phase.
  • Supportive leadership and management.
  • An inner-city Brisbane location with good access to public transport.
  • On-site car parking.
  • Hybrid working arrangements with 2–3 work-from-home days each week.
  • An attractive salary package.

Important note

This position is based in Brisbane and is not a fully remote role.
