Product Security Developer - Compliance Engineering

Overview

Red Hat Product Security is hiring a Product Security Developer to join its global Compliance Engineering group. The role is centered on improving security and compliance work through automation, better tooling, and close partnership with product and managed service teams.

Vision

The team’s aim is to multiply the impact of compliance and security operations by ten through automation. Rather than relying on manual effort, the group focuses on making existing tools easier to adopt and building new solutions that remove unnecessary friction.

Mission

The objective is to create a strategic layer of tools and processes that allows security and compliance activities to scale efficiently, enabling a compact team to achieve work that would otherwise require many manual analysts.

Team Goals

• Work closely with engineering product teams and managed service teams to automate evidence collection and remediation, with an emphasis on practical, code-driven approaches for certification.
• Help drive adoption of modern development practices, including AI-native coding workflows, to improve speed and reliability across open-source security tooling.
• Contribute to a team culture built on trust, collaboration, and a shared focus on delivering working software and solving difficult technical problems together.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and support security automation systems, moving initiatives quickly from early concepts to validated production use.
• Create automated pipelines that collect compliance evidence and help ensure Red Hat services meet strict requirements without manual handling.
• Develop with a builder’s mindset, creating tools that are intuitive, user-focused, and simple for product teams to integrate.
• Own software at the component level, address security defects, and contribute directly to upstream open-source projects using fast-paced development practices.
• Improve shared workflows through GitOps and test-driven development, while using AI-native tools to speed up code review and defect discovery.
• Communicate technical work clearly through documentation, presentations, or blog content that highlights practical implementation and automation outcomes.

What You Will Bring

• Strong bias toward execution, with demonstrated experience building or using tools to clear backlogs and release functional features.
• Solid programming ability, including comfort with writing, testing, and debugging code.
• Practical experience with Linux and container platforms such as Podman, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
• Experience improving CI/CD pipelines to support reliable automated delivery.
• Ability to work independently in a distributed, multicultural environment and maintain steady contribution rhythms.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude, OpenCode, or Cursor to improve development efficiency.
• Interest in contributing code and fixes directly to upstream open-source projects.
• Hands-on experience with GitOps and TDD, plus curiosity about evolving those practices with newer automation approaches.
• Ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly and collaborate effectively during peer reviews.
