Role Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced Resort Manager to join a hospitality team in Harare. The role calls for hands-on leadership across the property, with responsibility for guest experience, operational standards, team performance, asset care, and business results.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall charge of the hotel and estate, including day-to-day operations, guest satisfaction, service delivery, staff development, training, and upkeep of the property and assets.
- Lead the wider team to keep operations running smoothly across all departments and ensure guests receive a consistent, high-quality experience.
- Maintain strong standards across rooms, public spaces, food and beverage outlets, guest services, supplies, and purchasing.
- Drive revenue growth, profitability, and overall business performance while meeting company targets and key performance indicators.
Core Duties and Deliverables
- Carry out daily property inspections, brief department heads each day, and maintain regular personalised engagement with guests.
- Continuously review and improve operations, systems, and procedures to keep the property running efficiently.
- Ensure the hotel operates in line with guest expectations, standard operating procedures, brand requirements where relevant, and company policies.
- Keep the property compliant with local authorities, tax bodies, and other relevant regulatory agencies.
- Strengthen the hotel’s brand, service quality, and guest experience in step with international hospitality trends.
- Track budgets and cost of sales, improving profitability without reducing the quality of service or food and beverage offerings.
- Ensure reports and reviews are completed and submitted within required deadlines.
- Oversee the ongoing care of the hotel building, grounds, surroundings, and assets.
- Support refurbishment work and major maintenance initiatives where needed.
- Manage departmental heads so every function remains effective, efficient, and properly staffed.
- Work with Human Resources to attract and retain strong talent while supporting gender equality and equal opportunity.
- Lead hospitality training and development initiatives, close skill gaps, and help build a strong internal succession pipeline.
- Build a high-performance service culture through clear communication, mentoring, and leadership.
- Ensure all areas meet international benchmarks for health, safety, hygiene, quality, and energy management.
- Recommend appropriate, safe, standardised, and modern equipment to improve service delivery, efficiency, profitability, and product consistency.
- Keep the Hospitality Executive updated on any major developments affecting the business and suggest practical solutions.
- Review suppliers and service providers regularly for product quality, pricing, consistency, and value.
- Monitor guest feedback across all channels and respond quickly to negative reviews or posts.
- Share market insights on hospitality, food, and sleep-experience trends.
- Perform benchmarking and variance analysis against the local market.
- Promote energy, waste, and water savings through sustainable best practices.
- Manage CSR and recycling programmes, including related budgets and initiatives.
- Prepare for and attend business reviews and annual budget sessions.
Education and Experience
The position requires a diploma or degree in Tourism, Hospitality, or Management, along with 3 to 5 years of experience managing a resort or hotel, or a similar hospitality operation. Prior exposure to international or regional hospitality brands is preferred. A solid background in Front Office, Guest Relations, or Food and Beverage is needed, and a clean driver’s licence is essential.
