About Egis

Egis is an international organisation working across architecture, consulting, construction engineering, operations, and mobility services. The company partners with clients to plan, deliver, and run smarter infrastructure and places that can adapt to changing global needs.

With a workforce of more than 22,000 people around the world, Egis combines international scale with local understanding. Its multidisciplinary capabilities support practical, innovative, and sustainable outcomes that contribute to stronger and more resilient communities.

Through its work, Egis helps shape the future of cities, transport, energy, and the built environment by delivering long-term value where it matters most.

Role Overview

Egis is hiring skilled Signalling Design Engineers to join its Railways and Systems team in Melbourne. The business is expanding following a number of major project wins across Australia and New Zealand, creating an exciting opportunity to join at a high-growth stage.

In this position, you will handle general signalling design work, including the creation of signalling designs and final checks. Depending on the project, you may also take part in independent design reviews and guide designers on small to medium-sized assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare high-level signalling documents such as technical requirements, control tables, scope of works, aspect sequence charts, signalling layouts, power calculations, bonding plans, system architecture documents, cable plans, and I/O allocations.
  • Develop designs for infrastructure assets including trackside signalling equipment, SCADA/telemetry systems, train detection systems, level crossings, traction systems, and vital and non-vital interlocking systems.
  • Review high-level signalling documentation and infrastructure design outputs when needed.
  • Coordinate and lead designers on minor to medium-sized projects when required.
  • Support the testing and commissioning of signalling systems and contribute to the upkeep of signalling and related support systems.
  • Work with the team on bids and tenders, producing clear, high-quality technical advice and documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of railway signalling experience, along with specialist knowledge of conventional signal design and the relevant MTM and V/Line signalling competencies.

  • Degree or other tertiary qualification in Engineering, such as Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a similar discipline.
  • Accreditation through Engineers Australia.
  • IRSE membership is strongly preferred.
  • RPEV registration is strongly preferred.
  • MTM and V/Line competencies.
  • Proven background in railway signalling design with a solid understanding of Australian requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian railway standards and guidelines, with the ability to work in line with industry best practice.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
