Description de l'emploi
Role overview
Pan Macmillan is seeking an Editor for its Pan Non-Fiction team in London. This permanent position sits within a fast-moving editorial environment focused on commercial non-fiction with strong appeal across entertainment, sport and pop culture. The role involves helping shape books from the first concept through to publication while working closely with authors, agents and colleagues across the business.
Team context
You will be part of a collaborative publishing team that develops books designed to spark conversation. The list spans celebrity memoirs, sports personalities, and subjects emerging from digital culture and podcast-led trends. The team works closely with colleagues in Sales, Art, Production and Communications to bring every title to market at a high standard.
What the role involves
In this role, you will manage titles across their full publishing journey, with a particular focus on supporting the high-profile commercial lists of the Publisher and Publishing Director. You will also be expected to help generate and develop your own commercial entertainment intellectual property. A key part of the job is acting as a dependable coordinator across internal and external stakeholders so that books reach their audience effectively.
Core duties
- Guide assigned books from pitch stage through to publication, keeping authors, agents and internal teams aligned at every step.
- Carry out structural editing, proofreading and copywriting, including cover copy and Title Information sheets.
- Contribute ideas for new commercial concepts and intellectual property, with the aim of building your own acquisitions pipeline over time.
- Take part confidently in editorial and commercial meetings, presenting titles to teams such as Sales, Rights and Communications.
- Work with Art, Production and Design on jacket briefs, permissions clearance and critical path tracking to keep projects on schedule.
- Develop and maintain relationships with literary agents, talent managers and creators across entertainment, sport and digital media.
- Keep key records and systems accurate and current, including Biblio, to support commercial and operational workflow.
Experience and skills needed
The ideal candidate will already have experience in trade book publishing editorial work, preferably at Assistant Editor or Editor level. You should be comfortable handling a book through the full editorial process and be confident in structural editing, line editing and copywriting. A strong understanding of contemporary pop culture, social media, podcasts, sports and celebrity-led non-fiction is important, along with an interest in the Pan Non-Fiction list.
Working style and values
The team is looking for someone who is self-driven, organised and comfortable shifting priorities while staying detail-focused. Clear written and verbal communication is essential, as is the ability to contribute ideas in meetings. The role also calls for a commitment to inclusion, community, curiosity and integrity, alongside an active interest in publishing diverse voices and representing a wide range of communities.
Desirable experience
It would be an advantage to have familiarity with picture research and the process of clearing copyright permissions for books.
Reward and package
The salary range for this role is £33,000 to £35,000, depending on experience and expertise. Pan Macmillan also offers a benefits package that includes annual leave, pension support, private medical cover options, income protection, family leave enhancements, flexible working arrangements and a range of staff discounts and wellbeing perks.
Benefits
- 28 days of annual leave, increasing with service, plus bank holidays
- Generous pension scheme
- Discounted private medical insurance or a health cash plan
- Group income protection cover
- Enhanced family pay and leave
- Flexible working hours and summer hours, including an early Friday finish during summer months
- 2 volunteer days each year
- 75% discount on Pan Macmillan books and regular staff book sales at heavily reduced prices
- Season ticket loan or advance
- Cycle to work scheme
- Shopping and gym discounts, plus Christmas club savings
- Daily free breakfast and a monthly company lunch
