Role summary

The Purchasing Specialist supports planned work and project needs by sourcing raw materials and components on time so production schedules stay on track. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

Core responsibilities

  • Set priorities and timelines, request quotations, and raise purchase orders as needed.
  • Build a strong working knowledge of the supplier network and what each supplier can provide.
  • Keep ERP item records current, including supplier details, pricing, and historical data.
  • Follow up on orders to confirm they remain on schedule and adjust system records when changes happen.
  • Monitor open orders, push for faster completion when required, solve issues, and keep stakeholders updated.
  • Ensure information moves accurately and efficiently so internal and external stakeholders receive dependable service.
  • Complete production orders needed for secondary processing steps.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to make sure vendor invoices are handled accurately and promptly.

Experience and skill requirements

  • Background in purchasing or supply chain work within a manufacturing environment is considered an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of supply chain fundamentals, product costing, and quality control practices.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as Business Central, Navision, JDE, SAP, or Oracle.
  • Intermediate level ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Exposure to the oil and gas industry is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with down-hole products, machining processes, and sourcing machined parts is an asset.

Education

  • High school completion is required.
