BI & Data Engineer (m/w/d)

About the role

At TERRAS, this position sits at the intersection of business teams and the data platform. Working closely with the AI & BI Manager, you will form the core data and analytics team. The role focuses on understanding the needs of subsidiary teams, translating those needs into dashboards, reporting, and data-driven solutions, and coordinating with external partners rather than acting as a pure delivery resource.

Your first assignment will be to partner with Gemma Analytics on building regional market-volume dashboards based on thousands of public tenders, providing market intelligence for leadership and investors.

Responsibilities

Your work will cover data platform development, business intelligence, and stakeholder coordination.

• Build and maintain data pipelines and data models in Snowflake, using ELT workflows with Airflow.
• Design the first TU data integration approach by bringing financial and project data from subsidiary ERP systems such as BRZ, RIB iTwo, BPS, and Sage into Snowflake.
• Ensure data quality, document data flows, and help establish a Data Governance framework.
• Design and deliver dashboards and KPI reporting in Power BI and Loyos for management, investors, and subsidiary companies.
• Carry out ad-hoc analyses and turn findings into actionable recommendations for leadership and specialist teams.
• Develop regional market-volume dashboards based on tender data in collaboration with Gemma Analytics.
• Work closely with teams across more than 20 subsidiaries to identify data needs and possible use cases.
• Coordinate external partners such as Gemma Analytics and CommaSoft on data engineering and software projects.
• Present results and recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Visit subsidiary locations in person from time to time.

Requirements

Applicants should have a relevant academic background and experience in data, BI, or analytics, along with strong technical and communication skills.

• A completed degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a similar discipline.
• 2 to 5 years of professional experience in Data Engineering, BI, or Analytics.
• Excellent Python and SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse such as BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks.
• Experience building data pipelines and working with data modeling concepts.
• Experience with at least one BI tool such as Power BI, Tableau, Metabase, or Looker.
• The ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical colleagues.
• A proactive, hands-on mindset with the ability to identify, drive, and implement use cases independently.
• Very good German and good English language skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Power BI, which is the main visualization tool.
• Knowledge of Apache Airflow, dbt, or similar orchestration and transformation tools.
• Experience managing external service providers or development partners.
• Background in machine learning or statistical modeling.
• Industry knowledge in construction or real estate.
• Practical experience using LLMs and AI tools in daily work.
