Role overview
This position is for a Commis at St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in Singapore, based at 29 Tanglin Road, Singapore 247911. It is a full-time, non-management role within the Food and Beverage & Culinary function.
What you will do
- Prepare speciality dishes and substitute menu items when required.
- Manage oven, broiler, grill, and roaster temperatures to support proper cooking.
- Move frozen items into refrigeration to thaw safely.
- Check that portions, plating, and garnishes follow the expected standards.
- Keep food records up to date and monitor both the quality and amount of food prepared.
- Communicate when additional help is needed during peak service periods.
- Alert the Chef about surplus ingredients that can be used in daily specials.
- Inform service staff about menu specials and items that are no longer available.
- Maintain the required quality level for all food items.
- Cook and prepare dishes according to recipes, quality benchmarks, presentation guidelines, and the food preparation checklist.
- Prepare cold food items as assigned.
Additional responsibilities
- Support hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, counseling, discipline, and coaching activities when needed.
- Set a strong example for other team members and help motivate the team.
- Follow company policies as well as all safety and security procedures.
- Report maintenance concerns, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to the manager.
- Complete required safety training and certifications.
- Keep your uniform and personal appearance neat and professional.
- Protect confidential information and company assets.
- Respond to guest needs in a proactive and timely manner.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with others.
- Build positive working relationships and contribute to shared team goals.
- Listen carefully and respond appropriately to coworkers' concerns.
- Work consistently to meet quality expectations and standards.
- Be able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, and perform bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping movements.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Preferred qualifications
A technical, trade, or vocational school degree is preferred. The role calls for at least 3 years of related work experience. No prior supervisory experience is required, and no license or certification is needed.
