Labourer

Overview

GFL Environmental Inc. is hiring a Labourer for its Centre Burlington, Nova Scotia location. This is a full-time, on-site role focused on keeping the site clean, supporting day-to-day operations, and carrying out a range of general labour and maintenance tasks in a safety-conscious work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep work areas tidy and organized.
• Refuel vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Remove debris and clean tracks on track-type and related equipment.
• Carry out yard maintenance duties such as mowing and picking up paper and litter.
• Operate common site vehicles and equipment, including water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, mowers, and trimming tools.
• Follow company, federal, provincial/state, and local safety rules and procedures at all times.
• Handle basic office upkeep and repair tasks, including painting and janitorial work.
• Help control and direct traffic on-site when required.
• Take on other tasks assigned by management.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
• Applicants must satisfy the company’s safety-sensitive fitness standards.
• Ability to read, write, perform simple arithmetic, and communicate effectively with others.
• Comfort following instructions and working with limited supervision.
• Capability to operate the equipment needed to complete the role.
• Practical judgment and common-sense problem solving for routine issues.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift outdoors for about 90% of the workday.
• Must be able to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, speak, hear, climb, and maintain balance.
• Visual abilities should include close, distant, color, peripheral, and depth vision, along with focus adjustment.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 65 pounds regularly by hand.
• Must be able to push or move up to 100 pounds with help from another employee.

Working Conditions

• Work may involve frequent exposure to noise, humidity, rain or storms, extreme heat and cold, moving machinery, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals that can be toxic or caustic.
• The role is outdoors for up to 100% of the time.
• You may be required to work continuously away from the branch location during the day.
• Occasional work in elevated or precarious areas may be needed.
• Traffic conditions will be a constant part of the work environment.
• The setting is generally loud.
