This position sits within the Site Technology Team and is focused on supporting business-critical systems that power automated laboratory and manufacturing operations.
Role summary
The successful candidate will lead the rollout and execution of business and technology initiatives that improve operational performance, encourage innovation, and support transformation in a complex manufacturing setting. The role blends strategic planning, integration of advanced technologies, and user adoption efforts to produce measurable results. Reporting will be to the Associate Director, Technology in Ireland.
Key responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day working relationships with technology service owners, business partners, enterprise service partners, and customers receiving L2 support.
- Help design and implement approaches for coordinating on-site installations of corporate-managed computing systems.
- Build strong working links with corporate and remote site technology teams to align standards and support practices.
- Push operating model changes that improve the delivery of critical technology operations.
- Increase value delivery while reducing implementation and delivery risk.
- Improve service uptime, support modernisation initiatives, automate processes, and encourage agile innovation to strengthen technology service delivery and manufacturing competitiveness.
- Refine the site technology strategy and roadmap to match core operating needs such as reliability, efficiency, agility, and differentiation.
- Deliver outcomes through the use of modern operating models and disciplines such as portfolio management, service management, reliability engineering, and scaled agile.
- Support the creation and delivery of the site’s technology systems strategic plan, including stronger performance metrics and governance to improve KPIs and accountability.
- Advance demand intake processes, deployment and adoption activities, governance, programme management, reporting metrics, and supporting systems so strategic customer goals are achieved.
- Set up feedback loops and learning programmes so that new capabilities are trusted, easy to use, and effective.
- Lead cross-functional adoption initiatives and efficiency projects involving generative AI, advanced analytics, machine learning, AI, IoT, modelling and simulation, virtual and augmented reality, advanced vision systems, digital twins, observability, and process automation.
- Act as the link between technology projects and operational delivery by turning goals into practical plans.
- Work with internal technology organisations that are essential to effective technology use.
- Develop and sustain partnerships with internal stakeholders, global consultancies, and suppliers.
- Provide clear reporting backed by data on initiative progress, value delivered, technology risks, and overall posture.
- Serve as a trusted partner to Production Management, Quality Assurance, and support functions by identifying business issues and shaping an operations technology plan to prioritise and resolve them.
- Track external technology developments and act as a source of new ideas and continuous innovation.
- Use technology to strengthen business innovation.
- Develop employee capability in problem-solving methods, data analytics, lean practices, SAFe, change management, and business relationship management.
- Create a strategic workforce plan and a Model of Record with headcount forecasts, capacity assumptions, and demand drivers to support planning and decisions.
- Stay current on best practices and emerging tools in mobile and SaaS applications, security, validated and cGMP-compliant systems, infrastructure, cloud, data, advanced analytics, simulation and modelling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
- Communicate openly and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Be prepared for domestic and international travel of up to 20%.
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree plus 6 years of information systems and/or manufacturing technology experience; or
- Master’s degree plus 10 years of information systems and/or manufacturing technology experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree plus 12 years of information systems and/or manufacturing technology experience.
- Also requires 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leading teams, projects, programmes, or resource allocation.
Required skills and background
- At least 10 years of experience in information systems and/or manufacturing technology.
- Academic background in Computer Science, Manufacturing Automation, or Information Systems.
- Strong technical understanding of IT and OT environments.
- Experience with strategic planning, value stream mapping, demand management, and execution in a growing organisation.
- Solid knowledge of IT operations management, service management, and reliability engineering.
- Working knowledge of Generative AI, IoT, cloud, observability, data analytics, robotic process automation, and manufacturing execution systems.
- Ability to lead major technology change and support user adoption at scale.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including engagement with senior leaders and executives.
- Ability to convert operational data and analytics ambitions into practical actions across laboratory, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, engineering, and technology functions.
- Understanding of systems used in pharmaceutical or biotech environments across logistics, transportation, warehousing, inventory control, procurement, purchasing, accounts payable, accounting, process automation, and MES.
- Experience designing and using business and computer systems in complex manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotech settings.
- Experience resolving issues, shaping strategies, and implementing solutions in global multi-system environments.
- Experience creating migration and evolution plans and turning them into delivered outcomes.
- Ability to coordinate business process and systems issues across multiple departments and functions.
- Experience mentoring, motivating, leading, and managing information systems teams and professionals supporting multiple systems and functional areas.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and decisive in fast-changing, growing environments.
Preferred experience
Experience leading and managing information systems groups of business system analysts and other IT professionals who support multiple systems, applications, and functional areas is considered an advantage.
Additional information
Domestic and international travel of up to 20% may be required.
This role is expected to operate within a highly regulated, validated environment that supports cGMP-compliant systems and manufacturing operations.
The role also includes responsibility for building workforce plans, defining capacity assumptions, and maintaining a Model of Record to support resource planning.
The successful candidate will help drive technology modernisation, operational excellence, and adoption of emerging digital capabilities across the site.
