Role overview

Larmenier Catholic School in St Leonards, Tasmania is looking for a capable Utility Officer to support the day-to-day upkeep of the campus. This is a permanent, full-time ongoing role, working 1.0 FTE over 48 weeks of the year, plus 4 weeks of annual leave. The normal schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, with an expected start as soon as possible.

The school is a co-educational primary setting for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6. As part of Catholic Education Tasmania, it aims to support students academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally in partnership with families and the wider community.

The position requires a practical, hands-on person with trade-level ability who can help keep the school environment clean, safe, and supportive of learning. The successful applicant will also contribute to the Catholic identity and mission of the school while working with staff, contractors, volunteers, and the broader school community.

Key duties

Coordinate routine upkeep of buildings and grounds, including cleaning work, waste removal, and minor repairs.
Look after turf maintenance, playground care, and topping up soft-fall surfaces when needed.
Plan and complete specialised maintenance tasks and small-scale building projects.
Maintain tools, equipment, and chemical storage in a safe and compliant condition.
Arrange furniture and equipment for school functions and sporting events.
Carry out daily security checks, including opening and securing buildings.

Qualifications and compliance

Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).
Recent and satisfactory National Police Criminal History Check.
Valid Tasmanian driver’s licence.
Trade qualification or Certificate III, or equivalent relevant experience.

Salary will be aligned to qualifications and experience, in line with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024.
