Compensation

The wage range listed for this role is $39.855 to $49.454 per hour.

Experience

Previous hands-on experience in clinical or biomedical engineering is preferred.

Education and Certification

An Electronics Technology diploma/certificate or a specialized Biomedical Engineering Technology program from an accredited institution is required. Registration with CTTAM is mandatory. Student, technician, or provisional technologist registration may be considered. The successful candidate must obtain Engineering Technologist certification through CTTAM within six months after meeting the relevant experience requirement. CBET(c) certification from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists and Technicians would be considered an advantage.

Skills and Qualities

The position calls for practical knowledge of plumbing, hydraulics, or electronic installations, along with demonstrated understanding of anatomy and physiology. Strong English communication skills, solid interpersonal ability, good organization, time management, quick learning, customer focus, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision are all important. The role also requires sound judgement under pressure, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency with PCs and standard office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. The provincial health system in Manitoba uses the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.

Physical and Travel Requirements

This job involves extended walking, prolonged standing, and lifting equipment, supplies, and parts weighing about 25 kg. It also includes work with small delicate instruments that demand manual dexterity and normal vision, with or without correction. Exposure to cleaning solvents and other chemicals used in electronic maintenance may occur. Travel within the service area may be necessary, so a valid Manitoba driver’s licence and access to a personal motor vehicle may be required.

Term and Employment Conditions

This maternity/parental leave assignment may end earlier than the listed date if at least two weeks’ notice is given, or one pay period, whichever is longer. Candidates must upload a cover letter, resume, and copies of licences or certifications. A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check, is required as a condition of employment. Any related service fees are the candidate’s responsibility. The security check must be current, meaning it was completed no more than six months before the employment start date. An employee may not hold two or more Shared Health positions that together exceed 1.0 FTE.
