This position is for a Legal Associate based in Bangalore Centre, supporting Unilever’s market legal activities from Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. This role is part of a legal powerhouse based in Bangalore, working within a wider global legal function and alongside operations teams that support the company’s broader strategy through technology-enabled business operations.
Core purpose
The Legal Associate will support the Africa and Indonesia markets with legal research, analysis, and operational work. The position also involves contract support, compliance-related reviews, record management, and helping simplify legal processes through better use of technology and innovation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal research, analysis, and operational support for the Africa and Indonesia markets.
- Keep records and files accurate, current, and well organized.
- Handle submission of documents to official authorities and entities.
- Support the drafting, administration, and management of contracts.
- Help improve legal service delivery through process simplification and the use of technology.
- Work with lawyers across Africa and Indonesia to support ongoing legal activities.
Contracting work
- Negotiate commercial terms with third parties so Unilever’s interests are protected, either by using standard templates or adapting the other party’s templates where appropriate.
- Ensure supplier agreements include the right schedules and supporting documents to manage risks linked to third-party suppliers that provide or support Unilever’s information and systems.
- Coordinate with Africa and Indonesia legal teams to make sure the latest clauses, templates, and schedules are being used.
Governance and compliance
- Review changes to standard clauses and call out any departures or risk areas when terms fall outside approved language.
- Keep internal contract templates accurate and updated.
- Spot opportunities to improve contract workflows and help put those improvements into practice.
Stakeholder management
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners across functions such as Legal, Procurement, Finance, Digital Marketing, HR, local Data Protection Officers, and other business teams.

Experience and qualifications
A professional qualification in law is required. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in contract drafting, reviewing, and negotiating. Experience in a large and complex business environment is important, especially where data analysis and balanced risk-based decisions are part of the job. Strong negotiation ability from both legal and procurement perspectives is needed, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multiple time zones and countries.
Preferred background
Experience in consumer goods or retail is considered an advantage. Familiarity with procurement and legal aspects of supplier relationships is also preferred.
