About the Company

Role Summary
This is an hourly manufacturing role based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Roaster reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for roasting coffee in line with Ethical Bean’s HACCP program, production standards and company policies. The role also requires strict compliance with all health and safety rules. In addition to core roasting duties, the position may support the Production Manager as a lead hand on the afternoon shift or during the Production Manager’s absence, assist on the packaging line when needed, and take on other assigned tasks.
Work Schedule
The role follows a Sunday to Thursday schedule, and candidates must be comfortable working rotating shifts. Available shift timings are 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for first shift, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for second shift, and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for third shift. The current opening is for the third shift.
Compensation
The starting pay for this position is CAD 22.18 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Select and weigh green coffee for production.
- Run the roaster and choose the correct roast profile.
- Complete routine cleaning and servicing of the roaster on daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
- Help diagnose issues and support upkeep of the roaster and other production machinery.
- Maintain accurate roast records and equipment maintenance logs.
- Generate correct QR codes for each roast batch.
- Label roasted coffee accurately for the packaging process.
- Follow the roasting plan consistently so that both made-to-order and inventory-based production targets are achieved.
- Operate a forklift to move green coffee and packaging materials.
- Support the packaging line and carry out additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of high school is required.
- A forklift certificate or proven forklift experience from a previous role is needed.
- Training will be provided on the roaster itself, but the candidate should be able to understand and communicate well in spoken and written English.
- Basic arithmetic and computer literacy are required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude is important.
- The job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle bags weighing as much as 150 lbs.
- Good troubleshooting ability and clear communication with service staff are necessary when equipment issues arise.
- Experience in food production is an advantage.
- Availability for weekends and varied shifts is considered beneficial.
