Junior Data Engineer

About the Role

Helic & Co. is seeking a motivated Junior Data Engineer to become part of its expanding data function in Canada. This position is well suited to someone at the start of their engineering career who wants hands-on exposure to modern data infrastructure, guidance from experienced teammates, and the chance to help convert raw information into business-ready insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the creation and upkeep of dependable ETL and ELT pipelines that extract, transform, and move data.
• Watch over pipeline health, investigate mismatches or irregularities, and build validation checks that protect data accuracy.
• Assist with the administration of data warehouses and data lakes used for analytics and reporting.
• Work closely with analysts and data scientists to understand their requirements and deliver well-structured, usable datasets.
• Prepare and maintain clear documentation covering data schemas, workflow steps, and system architecture.

Required Background

• Good foundational command of SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Scala.
• Familiarity with relational database systems, including PostgreSQL and MySQL, along with basic data warehousing ideas.
• Prior exposure to cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, or to data engineering tools like dbt, Airflow, and Spark, will be an advantage.
• A learning-oriented mindset, strong attention to detail, and a proactive way of approaching problems.
