Where you'll work
Deskripsi pekerjaan
Overview
Tesla’s Energy division is focused on advancing the shift to sustainable energy, and this role sits at the center of that mission. The company is looking for a seasoned Quality Engineer to support manufacturing of large stationary battery products and to make sure both the products and the processes behind them meet stringent standards for safety, reliability, and quality. The emphasis is on building things right the first time, maintaining a zero-defect mindset, and continuously improving operations so every unit leaving the plant meets top-tier expectations.
In this position, you will work closely with several engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to raise customer satisfaction, build robust quality systems, and support efficient, dependable operations that contribute to growth, profitability, and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Own the quality performance of incoming parts, in-process controls, and overall production quality, while continually improving the system.
- Resolve difficult technical issues affecting internal and external customers by guiding structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, Lean Six Sigma, and Shainin.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to protect and improve product and component quality through risk reviews, containment, deep root-cause analysis, experiments, and corrective and preventive actions, while carrying lessons forward to future programs.
- Work with cross-functional teams to improve customer satisfaction, field reliability, reduction of nonconformities and scrap, and increase first-pass yield and related performance targets.
- Lead advanced product quality planning for new programs, including defining key quality requirements and characteristics for products, components, processes, and supplier qualification.
- Drive DFMEA and PFMEA activities to uncover risks and put mitigation plans in place, while also strengthening current controls through ongoing improvement.
- Identify and roll out critical requirements for products, subassemblies, components, and manufacturing processes to meet both customer and production needs, including supplier development.
- Develop, verify, implement, and continuously refine quality controls across production lines in partnership with Design, Production, Operations, Controls, and Maintenance teams.
- Participate in program, project, and design change reviews to confirm subsystem quality and reliability requirements are achieved through analysis, trials, and validation.
- Support dimensional studies, statistical tolerancing, process capability analysis, and other analytical methods to assess how part and process variation affects performance, manufacturability, supplier capability, and production quality.
Requirements
- A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Six Sigma or ASQ certification is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting and in a Quality Engineering role.
- At least 1 year of experience with electro-mechanical assemblies; battery module manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Quality Engineering expertise, with preferred certifications such as CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, CQA, or Manager of Quality.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and hands-on experience with methods like 8D, Lean Six Sigma, and Shainin; related certifications are an advantage.
- Working knowledge of core quality tools and methods such as FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, capability studies, MSA, APQP, PPAP, DOE, and hypothesis testing.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
- Ability to work across engineering, manufacturing, service engineering, and supplier teams with a broad technical perspective.
Benefits
Full-time employees are eligible for benefits starting on day one of hire. These include medical plan options with no payroll deduction, family-building support, fertility, adoption, and surrogacy benefits, dental and vision plans with $0 paycheck contribution options, an employer HSA contribution when enrolled in the high-deductible medical plan, FSA accounts for healthcare and dependent care, 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plans, company-paid basic life and AD&D coverage, short- and long-term disability insurance with a 90-day waiting period, an employee assistance program, sick and vacation time or flex time depending on pay type, paid holidays, back-up childcare and parenting support, voluntary coverages such as critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft and legal services, and pet insurance, plus weight loss and tobacco cessation programs, the Tesla Babies program, commuter benefits, employee discounts, and other perks.
Compensation
The expected annual pay range for this role is $75,600 to $124,200, along with cash awards, stock awards, and benefits. Final compensation can vary based on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional details about benefits and compensation would be shared in an offer.
