Role overview

ABM Industries is seeking a dependable School Custodian to handle routine cleaning and upkeep in a K-12 school, college, or university setting in Jay, Florida.

What the job involves

• Keep assigned spaces clean and orderly, including classrooms, corridors, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairwells.
• Sweep, pick up trash and debris, handle spills, and mop floors in the designated areas.
• Inspect waste containers regularly and empty them whenever needed.
• Use cleaning chemicals and powered equipment according to procedure to avoid harming floors, fixtures, or other surfaces.
• Report small repairs or larger maintenance needs to the lead cleaner or manager.
• Work cooperatively with clients, teammates, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers to maintain smooth operations.
• Sort, gather, and place recyclable materials into the correct bins.
• Dust and wipe desks, chairs, tables, fixtures, doors, ledges, floors, ceilings, walls, and other surfaces.
• Buff hard surfaces such as wood and stainless steel.
• Clean tables, chairs, and equipment in food-service areas.
• Move furniture, cabinets, crates, boxes, and equipment as needed, either by hand or with hand trucks, to reach cleaning areas.
• Wash interior glass, mirrors, windows, and partitions using appropriate cleaning supplies and tools.
• Carry out seasonal outdoor tasks such as sweeping walkways, raking leaves, mowing grass, removing snow, and similar duties.
• Keep restrooms sanitary and presentable, including polishing as required.
• Follow all company, client, safety, security, compliance, and quality procedures.

Qualifications and fit

This role is suitable for someone entering the workforce or returning after time away with limited experience or education. The employer welcomes military veterans and candidates with military backgrounds. Military Occupational Specialty codes listed include 92S, 92Y, LS, 3051, and 3F1X1.

Experience and education

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. No prior experience is required because on-the-job training is provided. A high school diploma, GED, or college degree is not required. Prior customer service experience and one year of similar work experience are preferred.
