Role overview
Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine is hiring an Assistant Scientist to support Dr. Silvia Fossati’s laboratory at the Alzheimer Center at Temple. This position focuses on hands-on scientific work in a research setting, with an emphasis on experiments involving cell and animal models of AD and ADRD, along with day-to-day lab coordination and support.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is $40,000 to $46,000. Final pay is reviewed by HR based on the work involved, the candidate’s education and experience, internal equity, department budget, and funding source.

What you will do
You will support research activity by running experiments, maintaining lab operations, and helping manage research materials and records. The role also includes supporting the principal investigator and lab team with operational tasks and equipment upkeep.
- Carry out experimental protocols independently or with limited guidance
- Work with cell and animal models related to AD and ADRD research
- Support ordering, colony maintenance, behavioral studies, lab archives, and general lab work
- Help maintain laboratory instruments and scheduling calendars for equipment use
- Assist with maintenance contracts for lab equipment
- Maintain detailed records of data and experimental outcomes
- Collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical software
- Prepare findings for meetings, conferences, research reports, manuscripts, and papers
- Use judgment to solve moderately complex research issues within approved procedures
- Order supplies and help identify and address equipment malfunctions
- Support training of graduate and medical students in research methods when needed
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Experience and qualifications
This is a grant-funded position. A bachelor’s degree is required, along with two years of directly related experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, primary cell culture, protein expression, and gene/DNA regulation. An equivalent mix of education and experience may also be considered.
A master’s degree in neuroscience or a closely related area is preferred.
Skills and knowledge
- Practical experience with cell culture and transfection methods
- Hands-on exposure to western blotting, PCR, and cell imaging
- Comfort using relevant computer tools and research software
- Strong recordkeeping and organizational ability
- Ability to analyze experimental results accurately
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Understanding of standard research practices and scientific procedures
- Attention to detail in laboratory documentation and workflow
