Role Overview

This position is for a Senior Backend Engineer to join an established development team and help improve and scale a sophisticated, fast-moving application. The role calls for strong backend engineering expertise, clear communication, and the ability to work closely with distributed teams across different time zones. The ideal candidate will have experience in Python, Java, Elasticsearch, and GenAI, along with a strong background in building robust server-side systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to design and deliver backend services and APIs.
• Build server-side logic that is efficient, scalable, and easy to maintain.
• Create and refine microservices for distributed systems that need strong performance.
• Improve real-time data flows and event-based system design.
• Run unit, integration, and load tests to confirm reliability and performance.
• Develop REST APIs and backend logic using Python and FastAPI.
• Package and deploy applications in containers within cloud environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Handle server-side events and messaging platforms such as SQS for real-time interaction.
• Design backend solutions with security, scalability, and resilience in mind.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience with Python, especially for building REST APIs with FastAPI or Flask.
• Strong background in microservices and deployment in containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Good command of databases such as Snowflake, AWS DynamoDB, RDS, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Working knowledge of distributed search and indexing tools including Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr.
• Experience with event-driven systems, server-side events, and messaging technologies.
• Cloud deployment experience on AWS, including serverless services such as Lambda, Step Functions, and SQS.
• Advanced familiarity with CI/CD tooling and automated pipelines such as GitHub Actions and Octopus.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and improve backend performance.
• Understanding of security practices for backend systems, including authentication and data protection.
• At least 10 years of experience working as a backend engineer.
• Experience working in agile delivery environments.
• Knowledge of web servers and backend frameworks.
• Exposure to observability tools for logging and monitoring, such as Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs while maintaining data consistency.
• Ability to collaborate across global time zones, including EST and IST.
• Familiarity with GenAI application development and RAG-based systems is an advantage.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation is a plus.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and high-throughput backend architecture is preferred.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or comparable enterprise search platforms is an added advantage.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach when working with engineering squads, product owners, and platform teams.
• Clear, proactive communication skills in both written and verbal collaboration, including stand-ups, design reviews, and async channels.
