Business Analyst - Workday

About the role

The University of Otago is underway with a major people and systems transformation through its People Pathway programme. The initiative is introducing Workday as the new Human Resources Information Management System across the university, with the aim of improving HR processes and creating a smoother experience for staff.

This position is for an experienced Business Analyst who has recently worked on Workday implementations and can help design solutions that support the university’s future operating needs.

What you will do

You will work closely with subject matter experts, Workday Functional Leads, implementation partners, and project specialists to turn business needs into practical system and process outcomes. The role also involves liaising with stakeholders across the university to understand existing ways of working, spot improvement opportunities, and contribute to successful Workday delivery.

• Capture, shape, and record business requirements.
• Contribute to Workday solution design and process design.
• Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to achieve project outcomes.
• Assist with data activities, testing, and business readiness preparation.

What you need to bring

To be effective in this role, you should have business analysis experience in complex organisational settings, ideally with recent Workday HCM project involvement. Familiarity with Workday modules such as HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Absence, Recruiting, Learning, Talent and Performance, and Time Tracking is expected.

Experience with Job Architecture and organisational structure design would be useful, though it is not mandatory.

Team and programme context

You will join the Transformation and Improvement team, which supports the university through strategic programme delivery and business process improvement. The broader programme is multi-year and spans HR, Digital, Finance, and other areas, offering exposure to a high-profile organisational change initiative.

Working arrangement and terms

This is a fixed-term full-time appointment for 24 months, based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. The role is for 37.5 hours per week and may be extended.

Candidates located elsewhere in New Zealand may also be considered if they can work remotely and travel to Dunedin occasionally when needed.

The university offers a competitive salary, five weeks of annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation contribution scheme, and strong work-life balance.
