Custodian

Position Summary

The custodian is in charge of keeping assigned spaces clean, sanitary, and orderly while following site procedures and safety requirements.

Key Duties

• Carry out janitorial and general cleaning tasks.
• Complete the assignments listed on the daily work schedule.
• Handle hazardous-waste tasks such as collecting, sorting, classifying, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging special or hazardous waste materials.
• Use motorized cleaning equipment when required.
• Maintain the day-to-day upkeep of the assigned area.
• Report accidents, unsafe situations, and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
• Follow safety regulations, company policies, and operating procedures at all times.
• Intervene when unsafe actions are observed in yourself or others.
• Work collaboratively with team members.
• Repeat tasks as needed to maintain standards.
• Keep the work area neat and clean.
• Follow company protocols, rules, and procedures without deviation.
• Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately to oversight.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
• Provide coverage when staffing is short.
• Help the shift lead finish punch-list items.
• Use required personal protective equipment correctly.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Understand the basics of customer service and customer satisfaction.
• Be familiar with reporting systems and environmental responsibilities.

Qualifications

No specific formal education is required. A preferred background of 3 to 6 months of training or relevant experience is acceptable, and equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

A valid driver’s license may be required. Completion of safety and task-training certifications is expected, and forklift certification may also be required.

Skills and Knowledge

This role calls for the ability to read and follow instructions, procedures, manuals, and related documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important. Familiarity with cleaning methods, cleaning equipment, equipment care, and safe use of cleaning chemicals and compounds is valuable. Bilingual ability is an advantage.

Physical Requirements

The job may involve frequent sitting, speaking, and listening. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Shift Information

Working days may include Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday. Shift timings are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $16.50 to $17.00.
