Role overview
This part-time junior Data Analyst position with Sociedad Latinoamericana para la Investigación de los Recursos Naturales is based in Brisbane, Queensland, and follows a hybrid setup with a mix of on-site work and work from home.
The successful candidate will help support research initiatives focused on natural resources and environmental subjects by handling quantitative and qualitative datasets, carrying out basic statistical work, and turning results into clear, usable insights.
What you will do
- Gather, clean, and arrange datasets connected to natural resources and environmental research.
- Perform introductory statistical analysis to identify patterns and support project work.
- Prepare straightforward data models to assist with forecasting, comparisons, or scenario-based review.
- Create tables, charts, and dashboards that make findings easy to understand.
- Record methods and analytical steps to maintain transparency and consistency.
- Help with checks that improve and protect data quality.
- Work with researchers and other team members to translate analysis into practical recommendations.
What we are looking for
This role is a good fit for someone at the start of their career who is keen to learn, can follow established procedures, and wants to contribute to evidence-based decisions.
- Solid analytical ability with a basic grasp of working with datasets, spotting trends, and drawing conclusions.
- Foundational knowledge of statistics, including descriptive statistics, correlation, and simple regression.
- Understanding of basic data modelling concepts, such as organizing data and building simple models.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills for concise reporting and teamwork.
- Confidence using common tools such as Excel or Google Sheets, plus at least one analytics or visualization platform like R, Python, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Good self-management in a part-time hybrid arrangement, including dependability and timely responses.
- Interest in natural resources, environmental research, or a related area; prior study or project work in this space is helpful.
- Tertiary study in data science, statistics, environmental science, economics, or a similar field, either completed or underway.
