Role overview

This position is the first dedicated Data Migration Specialist role at CurbWaste. You will lead the data work for every new customer onboarding, partnering closely with Implementation Managers to move customer information from legacy waste hauling systems into CurbWaste accurately, completely, and on schedule.

You will work with Rubie, the company’s migration platform, along with the internal admin portal, SQL, JavaScript, Python, and Excel to manage migrations from beginning to end. You will also help resolve data issues for customers after launch and collaborate with engineering to improve scripts, tooling, and migration workflows.

This is a build-it-from-scratch role, not a maintenance position. You will create templates, mapping standards, documentation, and repeatable processes that can scale as the company grows.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end data migration for all new CurbWaste and CurbPOS customers, including collection, validation, and customer approval after load
  • Review source data before migration to find data quality problems, duplicates, missing values, and format inconsistencies early
  • Work with customers to obtain exports, explain data needs, and set realistic expectations on timing and data quality
  • Create and maintain source-to-target mapping documents for each system you migrate from
  • Clean, map, transform, and audit customer data from older waste hauling and field service platforms using Rubie, SQL, JavaScript, Python, Excel, and the admin portal
  • Run imports and verify accuracy at the field, row, and dataset level before launch
  • Secure formal customer approval of migrated data and record any accepted exceptions
  • Partner with engineers to maintain existing scripts and develop new ones as products and services expand
  • Work with Product and Engineering to improve the admin portal and other data tooling
  • Document each source system, including mappings, unusual behaviors, edge cases, and reusable transformation logic
  • Support the Customer Experience team with data-related needs for live accounts
  • Spot patterns across migrations and suggest ways to reduce manual work and improve the process
  • Keep migration status updated across active accounts in Planhat and raise blockers proactively to Implementation Managers

Requirements

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in data migration, data onboarding, or a closely related hands-on data role within a SaaS company
  • Strong SQL skills for extracting, transforming, and validating data across different schemas and database structures
  • Advanced Excel capability, including VLOOKUPs, Power Query, pivot tables, data validation, and handling large, messy datasets
  • Experience with JavaScript or Python, including Pandas or a similar library, for transformation scripts, automation, and migration tooling
  • Working knowledge of Git for version control and script collaboration
  • Strong data validation skills, including reconciliation, referential integrity checks, null and duplicate analysis, and field-level spot checks
  • Experience building source-to-target mapping documents and reusable migration templates
  • Direct background moving data from legacy software in field service, logistics, operations, or waste hauling environments
  • Ability to work directly with customers, explain timelines and blockers clearly, and communicate non-technical requirements in simple language
  • Comfort collaborating with engineers and contributing to script and tooling discussions
  • Ease working in a lightweight scripted migration workflow using SQL, JavaScript, Python, and related tools rather than large enterprise ETL systems
  • Strong attention to detail and a track record of delivering accurate, validated output under deadline pressure across multiple simultaneous migrations
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred

Nice to have

  • Experience with waste hauling or waste management software platforms
  • Familiarity with Rubie or similar migration tools
  • Exposure to customer success or implementation platforms such as Planhat, Gainsight, or GuideCX
  • Experience with support and communication tools like Intercom, Aircall, or Fathom
  • Experience using Jira for task tracking and cross-functional coordination
  • Background in field service, logistics, or operations software
  • Experience building or improving a migration function from the ground up

Compensation and benefits

The annual compensation for this role is $95,000 to $115,000, depending on experience, plus equity. The company describes its pay approach as competitive and transparent.

  • Opportunity to be the first owner of this function and grow into a lead role over time
  • Direct collaboration with the Head of Implementation and the engineering team on daily-impact problems
  • Competitive salary, equity grant, and flexible time off
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with 401(k)
  • A culture that values ownership, curiosity, and going the extra 1%

Location

This role is based in New York City and requires a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
