About Vessev
Vessev is building a new kind of marine transport: hydrofoiling electric vessels that are designed to be better for people and the planet. The boats lift above the water using advanced hydrofoils, control systems, and electric propulsion, and they are developed and manufactured in Aotearoa. With strong momentum, international growth, and significant milestones ahead, the company is expanding its Electrical team.
Role overview
This is a hands-on, full-time position focused on building the electrical systems that help each vessel come together as a complete, high-performance product. The work spans fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, validation, and ongoing support of electrical components used in the boats.
Because the production, design, and build teams work from the same facility, the environment is highly collaborative and fast-moving. The role is varied, and beyond core electrical duties, it may also involve mechanical assembly, process improvement, and maintaining an organized workspace while taking on additional tasks to support team goals.
Key duties
- Assemble electrical systems according to design documents and wiring diagrams.
- Install electrical hardware, including brackets, supports, cables, harnesses, and conductors on vessel structures.
- Terminate cables, connectors, and harnesses to support dependable system integration.
- Carry out electrical testing, validation, and commissioning of vessel equipment and systems.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and repair electrical faults and system issues.
- Check and verify electrical assemblies meet Vessev’s quality expectations.
- Work with engineers, technicians, and boat builders to strengthen manufacturing methods and build outcomes.
- Maintain a workshop that is safe, tidy, and professional at all times.
About you
You should be comfortable with practical electrical assembly work, cable harnessing, testing, and commissioning. You’ll also need the ability to read schematics and build instructions accurately, along with strong fault-finding ability, attention to detail, and a consistent focus on high-quality workmanship.
The ideal person works well with others, keeps workshop practices safe and clean, and can adapt to shifting priorities in a busy environment.
Minimum requirements
- A relevant qualification in electrical technology or a similar field.
- At least 4 years of direct experience in electrical work, marine electrical systems, avionics, or a closely related industry.
- Practical experience with different cables, harnesses, and connectors.
- Demonstrated experience in testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis.
- Solid knowledge of electrical systems, wiring standards, and workshop best practices.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, work instructions, and build specifications accurately.
- Strong skills with hand tools.
Preferred experience
- Background in the marine industry.
- Experience in a startup, technology, or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards for electrical workshop work.
- Interest in marine technology.
- Exposure to prototype development, testing, or commissioning work.
Why join Vessev
- Be part of a company building something genuinely different in marine mobility and workplace culture.
- Work on technology with the potential to create lasting positive impact.
- Join a collaborative team with strong technical talent.
- Receive 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers and 4 weeks for secondary caregivers, subject to conditions.
- Enjoy competitive pay that reflects the value of the role.
- Spend time on the water as part of the job, including trips on vessels and work near the Tamaki River.
- Be around people who share a love of boating, beaches, sailing, foiling, surfing, and kiteboarding.
Application note
Applicants are asked to submit a CV and a short cover letter explaining their background and why the position is a strong fit. Candidates who may not meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply if they believe they can do excellent work in the role.
